Images

Image entities are flat 2D objects that exist within the 3D scene. They behave like 3D objects in that they can be moved, rotated, and scaled freely in the scene, but they have no depth, think of them as physical photographs or canvases placed in your environment.

What Images Can Be Used For

Images are a versatile tool for adding visual detail to your scenes without needing full 3D assets. Common uses include:

  • Backdrops and environmental detail - add depth and context to a scene with background imagery
  • Posters, signs, and props - place flat graphics as readable in-world elements
  • Stylized characters or cutout figures - if you prefer a 2D art style, image entities let you incorporate flat character artwork directly into your 3D scenes

Adding an Image

Click the Image button in the 3D View toolbar to open the Image browser. Select an image from your assets or upload a new one to place it in the scene.

Moving, Rotating, and Scaling

Images can be manipulated directly in the 3D scene using the transform gizmo, just like any other asset. For precise values, use the Property Panel on the right.

Billboard Mode

Enabling Billboard mode causes the image to automatically rotate to always face the Capture Camera, regardless of where the camera is positioned. This keeps the image fully visible and readable from any angle without needing to manually rotate it as you move the camera around.

This is particularly useful for background details and signage that should always appear flat and legible in the final panel.

Image Properties

With an image selected, the Property Panel gives you access to additional settings:

  • Set Image - swap the current image for a different one
  • Tint - apply a color tint to the image using the scene's lighting
  • Glow - add a glow effect with adjustable intensity
  • Outlines - toggle an outline around the image
  • Transparency - enable transparency and adjust opacity and sort bias

Images in Layout View

Images added in the 3D View are baked into the panel when captured. If you want to add a 2D image as an overlay on top of a captured panel instead — such as a title card, logo, or decorative element — use the Image tool in Layout View.

Tips

Use Billboard mode for background characters and details. Flat cutout figures with Billboard mode enabled can populate a scene quickly without the overhead of full 3D character models.

Combine with Glow for stylistic effects. Adding a subtle glow to an image can make it feel like a light source — useful for screens, signs, or magical elements in your scene.

Be mindful of resolution. Images have a maximum upload resolution of 2048 x 2048px - make sure your source images are high enough quality to look sharp when scaled up in the scene.

  • Stylized characters or cutout figures, if you prefer a 2D look
